BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) is hiring two Interim Coordinator, Planned Events.

 

Role Summary

 

In accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic direction of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

 

The Coordinator, Planned Events reports to the to the Manager, Planned Events, BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of BCEHS medical coverage at mass gathering events throughout British Columbia. This role helps advance operational readiness by assisting with risk mitigation planning, logistical coordination, stakeholder engagement, and documentation that enables effective service delivery at large scale and high-profile events. The Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring consistent processes, timely coordination, and reliable support for the Planned Events team.

 

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of BCEHS Planned Events operational plans for assigned events and serves as a point of contract for planning, readiness, and deployment support.
  • Develops and maintains event documentation including plans, briefing documents, templates, risk assessments and after-action materials.
  • Supports multi-stakeholder planning with municipalities, event organizers, and public safety agencies to ensure coordinated medical coverage for mass gathering events.
  • Represents BCEHS Planned Events on internal and external committees and contributes to education and awareness of safe event operations and BCEHS planning processes.
  • Supports BCEHS emergency response activities, acting in a variety of possible roles.
  • Conducts assessments of planning and emergency response to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Active participant in the BCEHS Emergency Management on call systems.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts to meet operational requirements, including weekends and evenings as necessary. Must be able to work long hours under stressful conditions, during emergency situations.

 

 

What you bring

 

Qualifications

 

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in emergency management, a health-related area, the social sciences, geography, business administration and/or a related field and professional designation, supplemented with two (2) years’ recent related experience, including experience in business continuity and/or emergency management programs for large complex multi-site environment.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of emergency management issues tangible to a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of the standards, systems and response agencies related to emergency management.
  • Interpersonal and negotiations skills including the ability to present to a wide range of individuals, group and stakeholders in a diverse community.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, contractors, and external partners.
  • Ability to plan, implement, coordinate and direct programs and activities. Ability to develop and deliver training, exercises, education programs and/or workshops. Excellent computer, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and a member of a team.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment and demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise judgment to resolve problems/issues. Applicants must hold a valid BC driver’s license due to travel requirements of this position.
  • Experience in data analysis is preferred. Ability to synthesis data and make recommendations on process/plan improvements.
  • Experience and/or education in project management principles is preferred

 

Indigenous Cultural Safety and Diversity

  • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies, including knowledge, and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous-specific racism and anti-racism.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)

While BCEHS would consider a foundation in Indigenous cultural safety to be a strong asset for consideration, our commitment to enhancing Indigenous cultural safety includes providing all employees with access to resources and training programs in partnership with San'yas Core Health Indigenous Cultural Safety Training and Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training.

Typical Hiring Range: $74,618 - $88,609

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
