BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) is hiring a Interim Manager, Planned Events.

The I/Manager, Planned Events reports to the Director, Operational Readiness, Disaster Risk Reduction & Resilience, BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and oversees the planning, coordination, and implementation of BCEHS medical coverage at mass gathering events throughout British Columbia. The I/Manager, Planned Events works to develop risk mitigation strategies to reduce system pressures and does so in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders to ensure public safety. This is an interim position with an anticipated end date of July 31, 2026.

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Lead a team that plans, coordinates, and implements BCEHS medical coverage at mass gathering events.
  • Provide recommendations to internal and external stakeholders in the provision of contracted and non-contracted medical services.
  • Represents the interests of BCEHS with external organizations in the context of mass gathering events and out-of-hospital health services.
  • Serve as an influential leader and key member of our clinical operations management team.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in a 24/7 operation.
  • Act in a consultant capacity, supporting stakeholders in the management of mass gathering events in communities throughout BC.
  • Work closely with team members from across the organization and with external stakeholders to identify risks and develop evidence-based solutions.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate out-of-hospital health services using data to inform intelligent decisions.
  • Ensure patient care is efficient, effective, and safe.
  • Lead, coach and mentor supervisors and front-line staff.
  • Promote a patient-focused, supportive, and respectful culture.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate solutions to improve services in your area of responsibility, and provincially.
  • Represent the Director as required

 

What you bring

 

Qualifications

 

  • Education, training, and experience related to crowd safety, emergency management, event management, or project management.
  • At least five years of progressively more responsible experience in health care, or the delivery of emergency management services or other complex care settings.

 

Skills & Knowledge

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to collaborate, facilitate, negotiate, and influence others.
  • A holistic understanding of the BCEHS response and operating framework
  • Solid understanding of crowd and emergency management concepts, principles, and best practices.
  • A valid paramedic or other relevant professional license to practice in BC is desirable (or out of province equivalent).
  • Proven ability to lead with confidence and ability to reflect on action, using a range of skills to ensure high standards of care are delivered.
  • Passion and curiosity as a leader, helping others develop, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and effective relationships and connections with employees, other leaders, health care partners, our community, and the private sector.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, moving easily from the front lines to the office.
  • Flexibility to travel for work when required.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.

 

Indigenous Cultural Safety and Diversity

  • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies, including knowledge, and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous-specific racism and anti-racism.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)

While BCEHS would consider a foundation in Indigenous cultural safety to be a strong asset for consideration, our commitment to enhancing Indigenous cultural safety includes providing all employees with access to resources and training programs in partnership with San'yas Core Health Indigenous Cultural Safety Training and Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training.

Typical Hiring Range: $106,026 - $125,906

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
