BCEHS intends to fill 4 (four) vacancies for Temporary Full-time Regularly Scheduled Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) PRU positions in Port Alberni.

The PRU will work as a single ACP responding to emergency and non-emergency calls. PRU ACP paramedics are responsible for all aspects of patient care, direction of employees in orientation to practice, and patient accompaniment during transport. PRU ACP paramedics will also be looked upon to provide clinical leadership in the continued professional development of paramedics in the field.

 

As outlined in Appendix 23, to support the recruitment and retention of Indigenous workers, and to improve the care of Indigenous patients/residents/clients/service users across the health care system,the Employer may select an Indigenous candidate, even where they are not the most senior qualified candidate.

Selection Criteria

 

Employees will be selected for these vacancies in accordance with Article 13.03 (Specialized Practice) of the Collective Agreement.

 

Essential Requirement

  1. CUPE member
  2. must have three (3) years plus a day experience within BCEHS at the relevant Paramedic or Dispatcher level as applicable 
  3. A current BCEHS preceptor/mentor or the ability to become one
  4. Satisfactory work record

 

The above noted qualifiers must be achieved by the closing date of the posting per standard selection processes for CUPE 873 employees.

 

 

Selection Process

  1. Applicants will be required to successfully complete a knowledge/skills assessment.This assessment is online through the Learning Hub and must be completed from a location with reliable internet access. The online assessment will be sent to qualified candidates’ BCEHS email and will be available for a 24-hour period. You will receive at least 7 days notice of the exam date.
  2. Successful completion of the interview at a passing rate of 65% (accounts for 45% of overall score). You will receive at least 7 days notice of the interview dates.
  3. FT Seniority (accounts for 10% of overall score)

 

Training

 

Successful candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete a variety of training, including but not limited to courses, orientation, and field training. 

 

 

This position is in accordance with Appendix 10 - Temporary Vacancies and Temporary Positions.  Temporary postings for Specialized Practice or Supervisory positions, or newly classified positions, will be selected in accordance with Article 13.03.  

 

Please note the following information:

  • If an employee relocates to fill a temporary vacancy or position, Article 13.06 will not apply, and the Employer will not be required to pay the employee’s moving expenses.
  • Employees may not utilize 13.03(d) or (e) to move into a regular position.
  • Accommodation support will be reviewed on a case by case basis on a without precedent, without prejudice basis to Appendix 10 - Temporary Vacancies and Temporary Positions.
  • When an employee fills a temporary position, they will assume the shift pattern and hours of the position and must be available for the term of the vacancy or position.
  • Any on-call or RPT employee who fills a vacancy or  position will temporarily change status to Full-time. Employees will be entitled to all prorated vacation entitlements, leaves, and benefits associated with their temporary position or temporary vacancy.
