Job Summary:

The Mobile Mammography Technologist independently performs screening mammography and related procedures as assigned. This includes duties such as preparing participants for mammography examinations, completing mammographic exams, providing participant education, and performing administrative tasks, including but not limited to the completion of supply, expense, vehicle mileage forms and daily reports. This role requires extensive travel including the operation and maintenance of an oversized vehicle. The Mammography Technologist liaises with the Mobile Operations Manager on any issues or concerns as required.
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Prepares participants for mammography examination by ensuring participant is appropriately gowned, explaining the procedure, and answering participant questions about the procedure and where possible, assisting or transferring the participant into the mobile mammography unit and ensuring participant comfort during this process.
2. Produces and develops mammograms according to program standards, procedures, and radiation protection practices by methods such as verifying identity of participant and exam details prior to start of the procedure and operating radiographic and computerized imaging equipment, including processing, and archiving of acquired data. Checks resultant images for technical quality. Verifies images in PACS and enters relevant data into the radiology information system (RIS). Refers problems regarding quality of images, work procedures or workflow to the Mobile Operations Manager.
3. Acts as a representative of the breast screening program, interacts, and conducts mammograms in a professional manner ensuring that participant confidentiality and respect is always maintained.
4. Promotes participant education in the area of breast cancer and risk factors to increase participant adherence to the breast cancer screening programs’ guidelines.
5. Performs routine equipment maintenance procedures such as quality control as required. Advises the mobile central office of the need for equipment repairs, including vehicle maintenance.
6. Advises the mobile central office of the need to reorder supplies according to established work-related processes, procedures, and guidelines.
7. Performs all related specific mobile tasks, including driving the mobile vehicle to various screening site locations throughout the province, ensuring safe location for mobile vehicle setup, stabilizing the mobile unit by deployment of jacks, operating the generators, or plugging into shore power outlet for required power of mobile’s systems, setting up related mammographic equipment and workspaces.
8. Performs general operation and basic/routine maintenance of the mobile unit and generators used for mobile unit’s power supply. Reports issues/concerns to the Mobile Operations Manager.
9. Performing and filling in vehicle inspection and driver’s logbooks while following commercial vehicle safety and enforcement (CVSE) regulations.
10. Organizes and books travel arrangements to and from mobile site locations and hotel accommodations in each area.
11. Reviews & updates mobile site contacts and requirements with the Mobile Planning Coordinator.
12. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties of mobile unit to maintain clean, sanitized, safe, and orderly work environment, including equipment.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
• Graduation from a recognized program in Radiation Technology. • Certification and current active registration as a Radiation Technologist with Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). • One year of recent related experience performing breast imaging. • Successful completion of CAMRT/BCIT courses related to the practice of mammography such as Breast Imaging 1& 2 and/or the Breast Imagining Certificate Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. • Valid BC Driver’s license.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively with participants and staff members both verbally and in writing. • Demonstrated working knowledge of mammography protocols, applications, and equipment with an understanding of the principles of mammography including positioning, pathology, technique factors, as well as related participant care techniques. • Demonstrated ability to perform screening mammography techniques. • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment, PACS and RIS systems. • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to function both independently and as a team member. • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload, problem solve, and perform under pressure while making frequent independent decisions. • Ability to drive the screening mammography mobile vehicle over extended distances. • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position including lifting and moving participants and equipment. • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in conflict resolution. • Demonstrated skills in CPR techniques.
