Job Summary:
In accordance with the Purpose, Vision, Values and Coast Salish Teachings, and strategic direction of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Performs all routine, special and developmental duties related to the Cytology area; screens cytology smears; maintains relevant records and equipment in accordance with established standards and procedures.
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Assesses, prepares and processes cytology specimens for analysis and/or transport according to established procedures.
2. Screens cytology smears.
3. Performs computer and/or manual clerical duties as required; participates in implementation of the computer system as required.
4. Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of the Quality Improvement Program and related activities, including the review and completion of case histories; follows up on clinical outcome in accordance with established standards and procedures.
5. Participates in the evaluation of new products and instrumentation; assists in the development and implementation of new procedures.
6. Assists the Team Leader in the development and revision of method and procedure manuals.
7. Maintains a clean and safe work area according to established policies and procedures; cleans and maintains equipment and assists with inventory control.
8. Communicates test results to designated parties and handles enquiries from other health team members.
9. Provides orientation, guidance, and collegial information or demonstration of equipment or work methods and processes to others including peers and new staff.
10. Maintains awareness of relevant advances and changes in current trends regarding instrumentation, methodology and technical knowledge and expertise.
11. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
• Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Certified. One (1) years' recent, related experience

• Demonstrated technical competence. • Ability to organize and priortize workload. • Ability to deal effectively with others. • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • Ability to operate related equipment. • Demonstrated technical competence. • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
