Job Summary

Salary Range: $57,347-$75,268/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.These are fully qualified working level positions.  Incumbents have directly related laboratory experience and familiarity with specific research programs and methodologies of the hiring laboratory.  They work under supervision and perform experiments by following established laboratory procedures.  They report to the Department Head, Principal Investigator, or designate.

 

BC Cancer’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Centre in Victoria BC, is a world-class research facility specializing in cancer immunotherapy. We are seeking a Manufacturing Technician to produce clinical-grade T cells for immunotherapy following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines. Under the supervision of the Immunotherapy Program’s Cell Manufacturing Leader, the successful applicant will produce Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells and other T cell products for adoptive cell therapy clinical trials.

 

The Manufacturing Technician’s responsibilities will include manufacturing T cell products following standard operating procedures (SOPs), completing documentation as part of the manufacturing record, maintaining and storing cell lines and clinical products, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment and facilities (calibration and cleaning), developing SOPs and related documentation for clinical trials, collecting data and interpreting results, assisting with clinical trial correlative studies, and performing other duties as required. They will also have the opportunity to contribute to publications and attend conferences.

 

The ideal candidate will have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in a related discipline such as Biology, Immunology or Biochemistry and will have a minimum of two years of recent related experience in a research laboratory with at least one year of cell culture experience. A Master of Science degree would be considered an asset. Experience in the following areas would be an asset: cell culture, especially primary T cells; immunological techniques including T cell assays (flow cytometry, ELISA, cytotoxicity, ELISPOT) and viral transductions, manufacturing of cell-based products for clinical use (cell therapy laboratory or bone marrow transplant unit), and working under a quality management system in a GLP or GMP environment. In addition to strong communication skills, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of responsible decision making, the ability to prioritize work, and the ability to independently plan and conduct experiments. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment while strictly following established SOPs.



Duties/Accountabilities:

•    Performs a variety of established technical procedures according to written protocols.
•    Performs experiments by following established laboratory procedures according to written protocols.
•    Records results, including computer data entry.
•    Provides input regarding modification of procedures as requested by the Department Head, Principal Investigator, or designate.
•    Maintains and stores cell lines and primary cultures.
•    Maintains and stores test materials and products.
•    Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
•    May demonstrate work methods or procedures to less experienced assistants as designated.

Qualifications:

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from a recognized Bachelor’s program in an appropriate discipline (e.g. Bachelor of Science); plus two (2) years of recent related experience in a research laboratory.
