Job Description

Digital & Direct Marketing Specialist

Permanent, Full-time

What we do

At BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF), we’re on a quest to ensure every kid in the province receives the best health care imaginable. As a fundraising organization, we inspire communities and people to support BC Children’s Hospital, along with its world-class research institute, mental health facility and rehabilitation center.

Our work makes a profound difference. From helping get the boldest research ideas off the ground to supporting the most advanced equipment, together we are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in children’s health care. This is no small task—which is why we’re looking for passionate people to join our team and help propel our work forward to power the possible.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for a collaborative and versatile Digital & Direct Marketing Specialist to join our growing and dynamic team. Reporting to the Director, Digital & Direct Marketing, you’ll play a vital role in delivering work that inspires, engages, and retains our donor community across multiple channels.

As a Specialist within the Digital & Direct Marketing (DDM) team, you’ll support a range of strategic priorities—from donor acquisition and retention to campaign optimization and marketing automation. This role will contribute to the end-to-end execution of digital marketing and direct response efforts for the organization. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and agency partners to develop campaigns that target diverse donor segments, from one-to-many communications (e.g., mass email, direct mail) to more personalized and journey-based touchpoints (e.g., 1:1 triggered messages, segmented content).

More specifically, you will be responsible for:

Multi-Channel Marketing Campaigns

  • Plan, execute, and optimize integrated digital and direct marketing campaigns with a focus on revenue-driving channels — including email, direct mail, digital advertising, and web.
  • Support donor journeys at all stages—from welcome and engagement to reactivation and monthly giving—across both acquisition and retention.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and creative teams to develop targeted direct response content and campaign assets — including email, direct mail, digital ads, and conversion-optimized landing pages — that drive measurable outcomes.

Channel Management & Optimization

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external media agencies to develop digital and direct marketing strategies aligned with strategic goals and donor insights.
  • Contribute to testing and optimization efforts across DDM channels, leveraging tools like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Google Analytics, and other performance measurement platforms.
  • Support the delivery of always-on, seasonal, and campaign-specific direct response initiatives, ensuring content and messaging are optimized for conversion across touchpoints.

Donor Experience & Lifecycle Support

  • Help evolve our monthly giving program and donor touchpoints to enhance loyalty, drive donor value, and increase retention.
  • Assist in developing personalized, data-informed donor journeys that inform, engage, and inspire continued giving.
  • Contribute to the evolution of donor migration strategies that encourage donors to move toward higher-value segments and maximize lifetime value.

Data & Performance Reporting

  • Support the development and maintenance of dashboards and reporting tools to monitor channel and campaign performance, conversion rates, and revenue outcomes.
  • Analyze and present data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions and drive continuous improvement in digital and direct response performance.
  • Assist with testing strategies and maintain a learning agenda that guides future marketing efforts.
  • Ensure that all digital marketing and fundraising initiatives adhere to, and are compliant with, CRA, CASL, Privacy, Accessibility, and other relevant guidelines and standards.

What you bring

We understand that no single candidate will perfectly meet all the qualifications outlined for this job posting. The following highlights the qualifications we consider important.

As a DDM Specialist, you are a highly motivated self-starter with a strong passion for using data, technology, and creative strategy to drive measurable results. You bring hands-on experience in executing digital and direct response campaigns and are energized by finding new ways to enhance donor loyalty and lifetime value.

You have a solid understanding of audience segmentation, targeting, and personalization, and are comfortable working with marketing data to inform your approach. You enjoy testing and optimization, and you’re curious about what drives donor behavior at each stage of the lifecycle.

You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and can manage multiple priorities with strong organizational skills. You are collaborative, proactive, and eager to contribute to a team focused on advancing the sophistication and impact of our marketing efforts

In addition, you bring:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field (e.g., marketing, communications, business).
  • 5+ years of experience in digital and/or direct marketing, ideally in a nonprofit or cause-based setting. Experience working in a large multi-level organization is an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage end-to-end campaign execution across email, digital advertising, web, and direct mail — including project management, stakeholder collaboration, QA, and performance tracking.
  • Proficiency with marketing automation platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, or Marketo is an asset.
  • Experience working with data and performance reporting tools like Google Analytics (GA4) and Google Tag Manager. Experience with Microsoft Power BI is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a comfort level working across teams and with external partners.
  • A testing and optimization mindset, with hands-on experience in A/B testing or experimentation frameworks.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project management tools (e.g., Asana), and CRM platforms (e.g., Blackbaud RE Nxt or Salesforce).
  • An affinity for our values – Think Big, Lead with Heart and Step Up
