Job Summary

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Medical Stenography, transcribes a variety of medical reports into a computer system from dictation or hand written materials, retrieves computerized
patient results and documents location of slides and reports for multi-sites of Providence Health Care.  Processes referred in and referred out slide, block and report requests.  Performs a variety of clerical duties such as reception, sorting and distributing mail and responding to general inquires.

Duties/Accountabilities:

1. Transcribes medical dictation such as medical reports from dictation or handwritten draft.

2. Processes and documents the location of referred in and referred out slides and reports.  Pulls slides and reports for Pathologists, medical staff and outside institutions in accordance with departmental guidelines.

3. Records the entering and exiting of slides and reports in the computer, retrieves results, and requests reports to be printed from the computer system.

4. Organizes and files slides as well as corresponding reports.

5. Performs clerical and reception duties such as answering telephone calls, responding to general inquiries, taking and relaying messages, and referring calls as appropriate. Sorts and distributes the mail.

6. Prints items such as labels, lists and various reports by entering information into the computer system.  Sorts, files and distributes laboratory reports to physicians and nursing staff as requested.

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12, graduation from an approved program in medical stenography plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination education, training and experience.

Ability to type at 60 w.p.m.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to deal with others effectively
