Employees must hold a minimum of an EMR license.

Job Duties

The driving evaluator will work with the NEO/Driving Team to support the employees requiring driving education and evaluation by:

  • Creating a safe environment that facilitates learning, growth and development.
  • Using good communication skills; active listening, sharing and respecting the learner’s input.
  • Setting clear expectations and learning goals for the employee.
  • Providing timely, clear, concise, and constructive feedback;
    • Using specific observations with helpful suggestions for improvement,
    • Delivered in a professional manner by focusing on strengths and areas for development.
    • Asking and answering questions in a positive and supportive manner.
    • Demonstrating knowledge of and familiarity with the goals and objectives of the learner’s driving program.
  • Documenting the learner’s performance confirming the successful or unsuccessful completion of the driving practicum.
  • Providing direct supervision and intervening where appropriate to manage situations beyond the employee’s ability.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be in accordance with Article 13.03 of the Collective Agreement.

If an Employee submits a driver’s abstract & factor report, but does not apply to the posting, the applicant will NOT be considered as an applicant for the posting.

 

Please note: Your current driver abstract from ICBC must be submitted to internalrecruitment@bcehs.ca , showing a class 4 driving license and a satisfactory record within the last 2 years. Driver abstracts for this EOI will be accepted up to and including July 1, 2025

 

 

 

Essential Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements as part of the selection process:

  1. CUPE member
  2. Three (3) years plus a day experience within BCEHS at the relevant Paramedic level (EMR or higher)
  3. Satisfactory work record
  4. Be a good role model and demonstrate competency in operating an ambulance
  5. Can motivate and engage others in the development of their driving skills
  6. Have had no culpable adverse incidents pertaining to the operating of an ambulance within the last 2 years.
  7. Current drivers abstract from ICBC submitted to internalrecruitment@bcehs.ca by closing of the posting showing a clean record with no at-fault accidents reported.

The above noted qualifiers must be achieved by the closing of the posting per standard selection processes for CUPE 873 employees.

 

Selection Process

  1. Knowledge/Skills Assessment (45% of total score)

All applicants who meet the requirements above will be required to complete a written exam to measure knowledge of the current BCEHS policies on driving and ICBC Driver Regulations. Eligible applicants will be notified of the exam date at least 7 days in advance. The exam will be held online and will be available for 24 hours. The pass mark is a minimum of 65%.

Applicants who are successful on the written exam will be invited to attend virtual interviews and driving evaluations at regional centres based on applicant locations. These dates are TBD.
 

Online Exam Access:

Please be aware, applicants require access to a reliable internet connection via Google Chrome, and it is recommended to use a laptop or desktop computer. We discourage the use of mobile devices for these activities.

 

        2. Interview (45% of total score)

 

Applicants who successfully achieve a score of 65% or higher on the Knowledge/Skills Assessment will be scheduled to interview. The interview will be in the multi-mini interview (MMI) format. Eligible applicants will be notified of the interview date(s) at least 7 days in advance.

 

Should you be unsuccessful on the written exam or pass the exam but not participate in the interview process, you will be counted as "unsuccessful" and will not be eligible to compete on roles in the same classification for a period of 6 months.

 

        3. Full Time Seniority (Up to 10%)

Up to 10% will be applied to eligible candidates who complete the interview to determine their final score.

 

The successful candidate(s) shall be the employee(s) with the highest total score and a satisfactory disciplinary record.

Additional Information

Successful candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete a variety of training, including but not limited to, courses, orientation, and field training. They will also be required to make themselves available to precept drivers a minimum of four shifts per month.
