The Qualitative Research Project Analyst reports to the Manager/designate and applies qualitative research methodology to conduct research projects concerning women’s and/or children’s health. An integral component of this position is the integration of knowledge translation principles within qualitative research projects at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) or BC Women’s Research Institute (WHRI). This position will interact closely with students and faculty from the University of British Columbia and other academic organizations in BC.

The Qualitative Research Project Analyst has a critical role in planning, organizing, and conducting research projects and preparing related scientific papers that focus on qualitative research and knowledge translation in alignment with the goals of the BCCHR/WHRI. Through independent or collaborative methods, the Qualitative Research Project Analyst ensures that research projects are conducted appropriately. The role participates in the design, conceptualization, execution, interpretation and communication of research projects and studies to a wide range of audiences. The Qualitative Research Project Analyst is required to communicate, verbally and in writing, by consulting or instructing on specific subject matters, with internal and external contacts. The Qualitative Research Project Analyst will have an extensive and variety of contacts within BCCHR/WHRI and academic settings and will interact with all levels of BCCHR/WHRI staff and members.

Duties/Accountabilities:

•    Manages research projects independently or in collaboration with others, in the area of qualitative research and knowledge translation.
•    Establishes Project outcomes and deliverables and determines appropriate analysis strategies.
•    Determines resource requirements and project schedules to successfully complete projects within established time frames.
•    Provides supervision to designated staff and students by establishing clear guidelines for responsibilities, reviewing workload assignments and establishing priorities to ensure timelines and expectations are met.
•    Collects and analyzes data arising from research and program evaluation activities.
•    Prepares and submits quarterly reports on the status of research and evaluation activities to the Principal Investigators of the research teams.
•    Liaises with BCCHR, WHRI and UBC based researchers.
•    Consults with professional staff within the BCCHR/WHRI by assisting them with report writing and disseminating research reports and abstracts.
•    Encourages qualitative research with UBC Faculty and other universities.
•    Supervises student researchers, students completing thesis work, research assistants, consultants, and clinicians undertaking research as assigned.
•    Develops and implements research protocols, interview guides, and analysis plans, in accordance with the priorities set by the Principal Investigators of the research team.
•    Works with research team members to seek research funding by preparing grant applications and content specific to qualitative and mixed methods research, and knowledge translation.
•    Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in qualitative and/or mixed-methods research, knowledge translation or other equivalent area of study and a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years’ experience working in a health research and/or academic setting.

•    Demonstrated ability to undertake independent or collaborative research including experience with research design, qualitative research methodologies and data analysis.
•    Superior writing skills with competency in writing research reports or study findings at a standard that meets the requirements for peer journals.
•    Experience with personal computer software including NVivo, Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Teams, Excel).
•    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with ability to organize work and set priorities.
•    Demonstrated ability to supervise research and project staff.
•    A thorough understanding of the Canadian health system, and a solid commitment to working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary and cross-provincial setting.
•    Excellent analytical skills in qualitative research design.
•    Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
