BCAS intends to fill 1 (one) vancancy for a casual Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) in Langford Dispatch Operations Centre. Open to all post probationary, fully qualified EMD applicants.

 

 

Applicants to both EMD and EMCT positions are selected based on Article 13.01 for qualified bargaining unit applicants.

  

A critical component of the BC Ambulance mandate is to operate an emergency communications centre. On a 24 x 7 basis, this centre offers the public immediate access to emergency services through 911 calls and provides, 2-way information sharing with our paramedic resources. 

 

An ideal Emergency Medical Call Taker will have the: 

 

-ability to quickly and independently make immediate and logical decisions and take appropriate action in a complex dynamic environment 
-ability to manage working under moderate to high levels of stress for sustained periods of times, 
-ability to balance their personal and work life while working a rotating shift schedule that includes days, afternoons, and nights and includes working weekends and statutory or religious holidays, 
-ability to work co-operatively within diverse teams, work groups and across the organization to achieve group and organizational goals 

 

“Dispatch Staff may bid out of their initial appointment to a Dispatch position to positions in other BCEHS Dispatch Centres during the three years following such initial appointment. Prior to application for a new dispatch position, staff must complete and be successful in training for their initial appointment and probation periods must be completed prior to the closing date of the posting. Staff that transfer will complete the balance of the three year commitment in the new centre.”

 

Please note, employees accepting any Regular position under the Collective Agreement will not be entitled to rescind an accepted offer after 61 days of accepting the offer.  Regular and Irregular employees may only rescind within the 61 days after acceptance.  You will also be required to report to your new position within the 61 days of acceptance.  Employees that rescind an offer at any time are not guaranteed to be placed back into their current/prior position.
