BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province's most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offers a broad range of health services. Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children (SHHC), a leading provincial facility offering specialized services to children and youth with developmental disabilities from birth to age 17, works collaboratively with BCCH. Perfusion Assistant

Applying your proven organizational and technical abilities, you will work under the close supervision of a Perfusionist to perform technical maintenance on and assistance in the operation of specialized cardiovascular perfusion and related equipment for a variety of surgical and therapeutic procedures. In accordance with established standards, policies and procedures, you will clean, calibrate and disassemble perfusion and related equipment in the operating room and assist with the laboratory testing of blood samples throughout the surgery or therapeutic procedure by running controls, testing blood samples in the operating room, and sending specimens to the laboratory. You will be called upon to carry out documentation during cardiovascular perfusion and related procedures by preparing paperwork, completing flow sheets, and charting lab values, as well as entering all data into the computer. This multi-faceted role will see you maintain inventory of disposable and non-disposable supplies related to perfusion services, notify the Chief Perfusionist when inventory is low and re-order supplies as needed. You will also prepare and operate cell saver equipment and document related activity.

 

A proven professional, you are a graduate from a recognized Biomedical Technology or Respiratory Technology Program, or have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. You demonstrate excellent technical abilities and are able to effectively operate all relevant equipment. Excellent organizational abilities are essential to success in this role, and you must also demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
