CANUCK PLACE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE
NURSE EDUCATOR
Classification: Level 2 (DC2)
Temporary Position for one year at .3 FTE.
Reports to and receives work direction from the Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Responsibilities:
- Provides on site clinical support to the nursing staff by acting as an education resource for staff in the clinical areas.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff to address learning needs, nursing competencies, and quality improvements.
- Assists in monitoring and evaluating nursing care, ensuring standards of practice are met.
- Promotes the use of research findings in practice by incorporating information into policies, procedures, reference materials, educational materials, and teaching sessions.
Education, Training and Experience:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, plus four years recent experience in pediatric nursing and/or pediatric palliative care nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge of adult education principles, experience in teaching an asset.
Skills and abilities:
- Ability to teach, coach, and provide clinical support.
- Ability to identify learning needs and develop educational programs.
- Ability to provide and/or develop resource materials, including educational materials.
- Ability to apply adult education principles in a clinical work setting.
- Ability to lead a group and work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong decision making and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong knowledge of conflict resolution strategies and ability to model those strategies for others
- Ability to prioritize and organize work independently.
Hours of work: equivalent of one and a half days per week (11.3 hours/week). Hours must be flexible to meet nursing learning needs.
