BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. As an academic health centre BCW’s mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.

As part of a multidisciplinary team operating in a continuously changing environment, you will provide nursing to patients in all three areas of obstetrics, including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum. You will conduct comprehensive assessments of women patients, their fetus or newborn, and provide emergency care for the woman-fetus-newborn in crisis. As well, you will plan, coordinate and evaluate the in-hospital experience in collaboration with the patient, her family and the physician/midwifery team. As an effective communicator, you will provide patient teaching and care, focusing on health promotion. You will also help develop and revise policies and participate on committees as required.

 

Registered with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CNRBC), you have graduated from an approved School of Nursing and have three years’ recent related experience in perinatal nursing, with two of these years being in Labour and Delivery. As well, you have current CPR/Newborn Resuscitation certification, midwifery certification and completed the Douglas College breastfeeding course. An equivalent combination of experience, training and education will be considered. As an expert in your field, you can effectively apply maternal-fetal-newborn nursing theory in the nursing care of obstetrical patients and the newborn.
