LifeLabs is currently recruiting for a Clinical Technical Assistant, otherwise known as Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA).  This position is Casual and therefore there are no hours guaranteed (0 - 37.5 hours per week).  Flexibility for hours is key for this role.




The CTA is primarily responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate and efficient collection of patient specimens from the initial greeting of the patient, data entry, phlebotomy, ECGs or Holters, to the final preparation of specimens for transportation.  The CTA is also responsible for performing related tasks to keep the PSC in operational order.  Float CTAs provide backup to regularly scheduled CTAs and Mobile Lab Service CTAs as required. In addition, the CTA provides input to the Team Supervisor concerning team issues and opportunities for improvement.



  • High school graduation and completion of a recognized Certified Technical Assistant program or equivalent related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and public relation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Keyboarding skills with a minimum 40 wpm
  • Ability to relate to patients and doctors in stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and take a positive attitude towards change.
