LifeLabs is currently recruiting for Clinical Technical Assistants, otherwise known as Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) for our Vancouver Island Patient Service Centres (PSCs) and may include the following PSCs: Victoria, Duncan, Ladysmith, Lake Cowichan, Mill Bay, Sidney, Campbell River, Nanaimo, Courtenay, Gabriola, Parksville, Port Alberni and Qualicum Beach. These positions are casual and therefore no hours are guaranteed (0 - 37.5 hours per week). The successful candidate may have a schedule in advance and/or be required to be on call and therefore flexibility with hours is required.
The CTA is primarily responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate and efficient collection of patient specimens from the initial greeting of the patient, data entry, phlebotomy, ECGs or Holters, to the final preparation of specimens for transportation. The CTA is also responsible for performing related tasks to keep the PSC in operational order. Float CTAs provide backup to regularly scheduled CTAs and Mobile Lab Service CTAs as required. In addition, the CTA provides input to the Team Supervisor concerning team issues and opportunities for improvement.
