LifeLabs is currently recruiting for a Medical Laboratory Technologist, Microbiology.  This position is casual and therefore no hours are guarenteed (0 - 37.5 hours per week).

Responsibilities:

The technologist is responsible for the evaluation, interpretation and work up of core routine bacteriological cultures as required, including wounds, stool, genital, urine, respiratory, vitek, bactec, c. Difficile and other miscellaneous testing.  Expertise may also be required for the mycology, parasitology, and NAAT – nucleic acid amplification testing areas.  These test results are provided to our physicians and other clients.  The technologist also performs quality control and maintenance procedures on media, reagents and equipment and troubleshoots problems in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and standards.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Registered Technologist with CSMLS (or eligibility for CSMLS), or documented training and credentials/registration from a non-Canadian MLT training institution.
• Recent microbiology experience preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge including keyboarding skill and an ability to work in MS Windows based environment.
• Good problem solving, analytical, organizational, and continuous improvement skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
